Wagin Historical Village - Free Entry During Woolorama
HOME
  • See the re-creation of life as it was 100 years ago

It's 23 years since the gates opened at the Wagin Historical Village. Back then there were only two buildings in which to display the many artefacts of the region. The Village now features 23 original and replica buildings with professional displays showing Western Australia's rural past. Along with shade, plenty of seating and clean restrooms, there is a 1920 tearoom that is opened each day of Woolorama from 10am, serving tasty delicious homecooked food for morning and afternoon teas and lunches. Vintage machinery and stationary engines will be operating each day. An attractive gazebo, painted in heritage colours, has been presented by the Wagin Agricultural Society to the Wagin Historical Village to celebrate the centenary of the Wagin show. First held in 1901, for over 100 years the Wagin show has been an annual showcase of rural innovations, produce, stock and community involvement. The gazebo has been erected within the showgrounds at the historical village as a permanent memento of the history of the past. The Governor of Western Australia, Lieutenant General John Sanderson will dedicate the gazebo at 2.20pm on the Friday of Woolorama, March7, 2003. The Wagin Historical Village is a microcosm of life in the district over the past 100 years, featuring many original buildings relocated there. It is open daily and manned by volunteers, a remarkable achievement. The roof of the Norring Hall at the Village recently received a coat of paint thanks to the Roof and Wall Doctor, a long term supporter of Woolorama. Valued at $1500 the painting was welcomed by the Wagin Historical Society which is currently restoring the hall. When completed the hall will be used to house changing displays, starting with artefacts from the Postal Institute museum. The display will be in place for Woolorama.
