Ever wondered what happens to wool once it is shorn? Feltmaking is one of the most ancient methods of turning raw wool into cloth.  Through the combination of heat, moisture and pressure, each wool fibre becomes completely and permanently entangled with the other fibres around it creating a felted matt (cloth).

FeltWest will attend Wagin’s Woolarama this year to promote its unique use of wool. Look for our feltmaking demonstrations at booth 410. We will also have felt for sale.  Our Felted garments and accessories will be featured daily on the cat walk.  For more information see our website: www.feltwest.org.au

FeltWEST is Western Australia’s first and largest group of feltmakers. A non-profit organisation aiming to:

• Promote the making of quality felt in Western Australia.

• Facilitate the sharing of feltmaking information and skills by publishing a newsletter for members and through meetings, workshops, public demonstrations and exhibitions.

• Acknowledge and respect the creations and ideas of members and to encourage fellowship between members.

• Encourage and develop contact with feltmakers elsewhere.

We meet in Perth every 3rd Saturday of the month, visitors welcome.

There are also wonderful country felting groups in the Bunbury region: www.facebook.com/bunburyfelters/., and a group in the Great Southern: www.facebook.com/FIGS-Felters-in-the-Great-Southern .
